The Fulmar Gliding Club (FGC) is the only Royal Air Force Gliding and Soaring Association Club in Scotland. It serves RAF Kinloss, Lossiemouth and Leuchars but is also open to and welcomes civilian membership. The club has a comprehensive aircraft suite comprising: ASTIR single-seat and ACRO two-seat gliders, a Motor Falke Self Launching Motor Glider and a SUPERMUNK Tug; a two-cable TOST winch is also available.

Although based and operating at RAF Kinloss, with excellent Hangar and Clubhouse facilities, Fulmar has a strong association with the Highland Gliding Club at Elgin. The FGC regularly flies from Highland's grass field at Easterton, sharing facilities and instructors, as required.

Fulmar has a small but growing membership of active pilots, four instructors and a number of budding pilots, training towards their first solo. Anything from trial lessons, through initial training, to renewal of qualifications can be carried out at either site, including Motor Glider conversion.

Additional activities, including soaring weeks, take place throughout the year and service members are able to take advantage of training courses at the Gliding Centre at Bicester and sponsorship through some of their training by Service welfare funds.

The situation of both airfields, between the Moray Firth and the Grampian Mountains enjoys dramatic scenery and interesting weather conditions. Generally protected from the worst of the elements, clear conditions and good visibility are often a feature - even in the winter. The sea-breeze affects Kinloss more than Easterron but when the prevailing westerly wind swings toward the Southwest good wave conditions can occur and ridges in the local area work, giving opportunities for excellent soaring.

Although in an area of intense military air activity, civil use of the local airspace is relatively light and the ATC Unit at RAF Lossiemouth ensures easy deconfliction of gliding and other air activity.
Why not visit the club or call a representative? - Details are on this website. Gliding need not be an expensive sport. FGC charges are favourable when compared with civilian clubs, and there is nothing to beat silent flight on a clear day over the Scottish Mountains. Welcome to the Fulmar Gliding Club Website, why not give it a go!
